Coming Soon to Kickstarter – Campaign Options: Mazes 2nd Edition

Have you ever tried to run a maze in your D&D game? Was it really a maze or was it a dungeon that called itself a maze? On their own, mazes can seem intimidating to run, or even boring. You’re either describing a never-ending series of corridors and dead ends or the players are easily solving the maze because they can see the whole damn map. For many of us, running a maze has never truly worked out like we planned, so we stick with the same old style of dungeon crawling.

Campaign Options: Mazes 2nd Edition is an upcoming third-party sourcebook published by Broken Ruler Games using the 5th edition of the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game. Originally published in 2003 by Emerald Press for the 3rd Edition of the same game, this book updates the previous version with revised text to suit the current edition, new art, maps, and layout for a completely new aesthetic. It provides a game-altering option for dungeon crawling with new rules, monsters, spells, and character options designed to test any player’s appetite for exploration and danger.

It doesn’t matter if you already know how to build a maze or not, Campaign Options: Mazes 2nd Edition provides detailed guidelines, procedures, and suggestions for creating your own from scratch OR grabbing the first maze you find online and turning it into your next adventure site. And to top it all off, we’ve invited one of the industry’s best RPG cartographers, Dyson Logos (Dungeons & Dragons), to help us create a unique maze adventure, the Endless Path.

Launching September 13th, 2022 on Kickstarter.

Adapt. Overcome. Survive. A New Kickstarter Rises on September 29th

The teaser trailer for the Survival of the Able Kickstarter campaign (launching September 29th)

The year is 1347 A.D. The Black Death runs rampant around the world and has now come to your village. Everywhere around you people are succumbing to the plague. Quarantines are doing little to stem the tide of decay that is coming your way. Worst of all, you and the others in your almshouse have been left to fend for yourselves.

Oh, and did we mention plague victims are rising as zombies?

This is the premise behind Survival of the Able, Jacob Wood’s tabletop RPG about people with disabilities overcoming a zombie plague during the Middle Ages. In this game, you’re a disabled person living in a European almshouse when the Black Death comes to your town. Little is known about where the plague originated or how to stop it, but those who die from it are rising again—and they’re hungry for flesh. Since everyone else has succumbed to the plague, it’s up to a handful of you to make your way out of town and away to safety.

Broken Ruler Games is proud to partner with Accessible Games to help bring this game back from the dead and onto Kickstarter. Launching September 29th until November 1st (around 9pm EST), the Survival of the Able Kickstarter will help us create a tabletop RPG built from the ground up for greater accessibility. From its open-ended applications of disabilities to create realistic and capable characters to its multi-layered production approach to create a variety of options for people with various forms of print disabilities.

If you are a fan of Broken Ruler’s other titles, we highly encourage you to check out this campaign and help us help Jacob bring this important empathetic look at the struggles and triumphs of people with disabilities set against the backdrop of a zombie outbreak.

The World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game: The Zine on Kickstarter… NOW!

Do you like to dabble in all sorts of tabletop games? Genres? Are you a fan of D&D but also enjoy playing PbtA games and have a few Fate Dice at home? Then have we got the Kickstarter for you.

Broken Ruler Games is pleased to announce our third Kickstarter of 2019 has just launched. The World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game: The Zine will put an “indie spin” on the 5th edition of the world’s most popular roleplaying game. Available exclusively through this Kickstarter (meaning it will not be sold anywhere else outside of this 30-day campaign), WGRG: The Zine aims to create up to four issues released throughout 2020.

While we’re still working on lining up a list of D&D and indie designers for this zine, we did want to let you know some of the articles we’re working on.

  • Investigation mechanics for 5e – Turn your dunegon crawl into an archaelogical mystery or adapt 5e for a modern detective story using an optional investigation system inspired by the GUMSHOE system by Robin Laws and published by Pelegrane Press.
  • Complications on failed rolls – What if you could take away the pass/fail aspect of attack rolls and make those failures add excitement and tension to your game? We’re looking into an optional rule that would apply story-based complications onto those failures to keep players on their toes during a wicked battle.
  • Building a relationship (mechanic) – Just who ARE these people you travel with? On those long journeys from dungeon to dungeon, who do you bond with the most and what lines can you never cross with them? Adding some relationship mechanics can turn your 5e game into a well-produced HBO action/drama series.
  • How about a high school drama hack of 5e? – Whether your characters are training to become adventurers in one of your world’s greatest academies or in a modern world of everyday teens struggling to get through another Monday, it’s time to really show what these rules can do!
  • Alternate death rules – Feel like living on the edge with your characters? Strip away those death saves and walk on the wild side with some alternate rules that could actually make you wish someone memorized a raise dead spell.
  • The World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game: The Game – Imagine a Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) RPG about a group of players playing 5e that takes place while YOU play 5e. Featuring playbooks such as the Rules Lawyer, the Min-Maxer and more, each playbook taps into the pros and cons of each of the most common player types in the hobby to provide in-game moves triggered by the events in your existing game of 5e.

Check us out on Kickstarter before November 27th, 2019.

Let’s Put An Indie Spin on The World’s Greatest RPG

Broken Ruler Games is proud to official announce (because let’s face it, keeping secrets isn’t exactly something we’re good at when it comes to Twitter) our next Kickstarter project… and this time it features our entry into the realm of dungeons and/or dragons.

The World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game: The Zine is a zine dedicated to supporting the 5th edition of the world’s most popular RPG but with an indie spin. Created by Jen Adcock and Todd Crapper, WGRG: The Zine looks to bring some of the great indie mechanics and story game ideas that have been circulating along the fringes of the market and merge themselves with 5e’s adaptable ruleset.

You can check out a preview of our Kickstarter page right now or learn more on the official WGRG: The Zine page and see what the fuss is about. It launches on October 29th, 2019 and we look forward to bringing you an indie spin on 5e.
